When 17-year-old Marti, 15-year-old Elena, and 14-year-old Benson are in the middle of treatment, their psychologist disappears. 28-year-old Rhosy Crane has been treating all of them for anxiety disorders for months. She’s kind, smart, calm, and, unbeknownst to them, the last living student of Dr. Matthew Olafsoff, the world’s leading expert on fear.
Benson is convinced that Rhosy would never have abandoned them like this and convinces Elena and Marti to help him figure out what’s happened to Rhosy.
Meanwhile, Elena has known for a while that “Inimical Helix'' is trouble. After all, she grew up listening to her grandparents talking about Cuba and cursing the name of Castro. But after the initial fear and scramble of a private drug company staging a government coup, everything just seemed so normal. At least it did until she connects Dr. Olafsoff to Inimical Helix and starts to wonder if it has something to do with Rhosy’s disappearance.
And Marti has a car and a long history with rule-breaking. They decide that if Inimical Helix has Rhosy, then they can figure out where and they, along with Elena and Benson, can stage a rescue.
